Fantasy sports have been around in the United States for a long time and now the idea is going global. International fantasy sports are popping up due to the growing popularity for sports in Europe, South America, and Asia in the United States. From soccer to auto racing, international fantasy sports are here to stay.

style="margin-bottom: 0in;">In terms of international fantasy sports, soccer is the most popular. With soccer gaining more and more popularity in America every year, many fans play the European version of fantasy soccer. Fans from around the world can find fantasy soccer for every major league in the world. The English Premier League is the most popular in the United States but the Mexican, Spanish, French, and German Premier leagues are growing as well.

International fantasy sports like fantasy soccer are usually salary cap leagues. Each owner starts with a set budget and he can then pick any players he wants as long as he keeps it under the salary cap. The rosters hold about 15 players and there are 11 starters in the lineup. The scoring in fantasy soccer is a little different than the American sports but it is fun nonetheless. The scoring goes as follows:

Positive

  • +2 pts for playing entire game

  • +1 pt for playing but getting subbed in or out.

  • +3 pts for an assist

  • +5 pts for scoring a goal

  • +4 pts for a full match clean sheet (Goalkeepers and defenders only)

  • +2 pts for a part clean sheet (not allowing a goal during the player's time on the field)

  • +5 pts for saves on penalty kicks (Goalkeepers only)

Negative

  • -5 pts for missing a penalty shot

  • -2 pts for an own goal

  • -1 pt per goal given up (Goalkeepers only)

  • -5 pts for being sent off (ejected)

  • -2 pts for being booked (yellow card)

The international fantasy sports world of auto racing has made a permanent pit-stop in the United States. Although not as popular as fantasy NASCAR, similar fantasy leagues for Formula-1 Racing are growing.

Each week, before qualifying begins, owners select an eight-driver team from three groupings based on drivers success. Then, before the race, you will select four starting drivers for your team. Although it seems like it would seem obvious to pick the best drivers week in and week out, that is not the case, in auto racing, drivers often specialize in different track types and injuries are also a major concern

In fantasy auto racing, the winner of the race receives twice as many points as there are drivers in the field. For instance, in a 45-car race, the winner would get 90 points and the runner-up would get 88 and so on. The scores of the four drivers on each team are added up and that is how the winner is determined.

International fantasy sports are proof that the United States is no longer just a 4 sport country. With soccer and auto racing making their presence known, Americans are flooded with different sports everywhere they go and fantasy sports are more popular than ever. Although baseball, football, basketball, and hockey are still the most popular leagues, international fantasy sports leagues are spreading across the country at a rapid pace and there is no end in sight.
